Total vehicle sales in Aug ‘25 came to 1,261 units, representing a 3.7% m/m decline from the previous month. Nevertheless, sales in ‘25 remain stronger than in ‘24, with Aug recording a 26.7% y/y increase. Meanwhile, annual inflation for car purchases came to 2.6% in Aug '25, accelerating from 2.1% in the previous month but down from 3.8% recorded twelve months ago. In South Africa, growth in new vehicle sales has rebounded after contracting in '24, while growth in used vehicle sales has cooled. On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales rose in both nominal and real terms across both categories.
