NCPI Note October 2023
Headline inflation accelerated for a fourth consecutive month, up to 6.0% y/y in Oct ‘23 from 5.4% in Sep ’23 (but slower than the 7.1% for Oct ’23). Annual inflation slowed across four of the main categories compared to Sep ’23 (food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, health, and communication). The driver for higher inflation was the transport category, solely due to higher fuel prices following the increases at the start of Oct ’23. Monthly inflation was largely unchanged at 0.8%, again largely driven by the m/m rise in fuel pump prices.
